I'm on the fence, in my boots.

My first impression of the boots, were, of course, upon opening the box. After opening the bag the shoe box came in, I got a very heavy whiff of lacquer. It's a pretty sharp smell that I hope will go away as I wear the boot. After opening the box, the smell was much stronger. Holding the boots in my hand, they have a very nice buttery, almost-leather-like texture. They aren't as polished as in the picture, but I think with the right shoe polish, you could get that effect. The laces are a wax round lace and my first thoughts were that they don't seem as sturdy as they look on the site. They're much thinner than I expected - which also served to make them much lighter than I'd initially thought they would be. Getting the boots on for the first time is a bit of a trial. You have to unbuckle ALL the buckles and loosen the laces, then put your foot in and tighten/tie the laces and buckle all the buckles. It seems to be a labor of love, though, as the makers were very intelligent in putting in a short ankle zipper along the inside seam. This makes it so that after the bottom buckle and laces are done up, all you have to do is zip and buckle the shin flap. I found that there is a good bit of room for a bigger calf in the upper portion of the boot, which I'm sure is nice for some ladies. One of my calves is about an inch smaller than the other (I have scoliosis and it affects my frame); I have the buckles on my smaller calf all the way in and it's still a touch loose. The leg of the boot chafes a bit on this side, as there's still room for the boot to move about. The boot on my larger calf is on the second hole and fits nicely; no budge and slide as I walk. These boots do slouch a bit at the ankle - something I'm not partial to, but given the thinner material, I guess that's to be expected. The arch is low; as in, there is none. I really want to love this boot, but I find myself on the fence about them. Maybe given enough time I'll fall in love, but right now, it's just like. I'm still trying to decide if I want to send them back or not...
Pros:- soft faux leather material. - roomy interior. - cute plaid detailing. - easy on/off zipper detail. - good calf room and adjust-ability for women with larger calf muscles. - runs true to size.
Cons:- not partial to the shipping; just a plastic bag over the shoe box, which got trashed in shipment. - thinner materials than expected/not very sturdy. - shoe laces were kinda cheap and one was shorter than the other. (by several inches) - no arch support. - not a lot of tread for traction in the sole. - VERY strong smell of lacquer.
