Lauren M: There's no tread on the soles at all.. I had mine for about 3 weeks before a hole came about in the bottom. Laura F: They come up to about mid calf. They are a great fit! Btw, as a warning, the brown boots are a lot lighter than they look in the picture. It's like an orange-brown. Amy A: These come up about mid calf. And by the way I love these boots for the price! I will say this, if you tend to go between two different sizes, size down. I am usually a 6 to a 6.5. I thought with thick socks, go with the 6.5. Unfortunately, we do not receive the calf measurements for each boot. Generally the average size around the calf area for juniors boots is around 14 inches. I usually by an 8.5 in these I would've been fine with an 8. I just choose a thicker sock. Better big than small. I did'nt send them back, because when I got them they were so cute I had to wear them. Wore them around my apartment thinking I'd need to break them in especially when I've broke both feet in past.. I kept waiting for them to hurt.. nope they never did. I've already wore them with jeans & yes I did the botts & sundress thing.. cute.
